The committee that runs the parade cancelled it because of the excessive drinking and damage to the area around Western Avenue. As far as arrests go, last year was an all time high. Chicago police arrested 54 people for a laundry list of reasons.

This is Republicans and Democrats and Libertarians coming together saying let’s wake up and let’s really defend our Constitution and take our country back.
(VO)

Andre Perry Profile

THE ENGLERT THEATER HAS A NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR. WHILE IT MAY BE A NEW FACE FOR THE THEATER ANDRE PERRY HAS BEEN AROUND THE IOWA CITY MUSIC SCENE FOR AWHILE. PAT QUINN HAS THE STORY.
(VO)
Andre Perry is a graduate of Princeton University and the University of Iowa MFA program. He is an author, artist, music festival curator and now the executive director of The Englert Theater.

When there is a big name artist in Iowa City, odds are Perry is somewhere behind it. Most recently The Mission Creek Music Festival, which he cofounded, hit Iowa City to much critical acclaim. With a bigger venue and a bigger budget to work with, Perry could make a huge impression on Iowa City arts and entertainment scene

After graduation new attitude inspired Perry to start booking shows.

(SOT)
I moved to San Francisco after school so that had a lot do with it. I think just being exposed to a lot of people doing what they want to do you kind of get in the mindset of like you know if you're lucky to get half a chance of doing what you want to do, you should probably pursue it.
(STAND UP)
Perry got his start here at The Mill in Iowa City where he worked his way up from bartender to booker. After leaving a huge impact on The Mill's music scene he is on his way to the Englert just a few short blocks away where he'll have a bigger budget, bigger venue and a bigger opportunity to leave lasting impact on the Iowa City arts and entertainment scene.
(SOT)
We certainly want to bring in some big acts, some national acts that maybe haven't been here before, that we've had trouble getting.

It's obvious that with Andre Perry big things will be happening at the Englert.

WITH SPRING IN FULL SWING IOWA CITY OPENS IT’S DOORS TO ARTISTS FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. PAT QUINN HAS THE STORY.
(VO)
Iowa City… it’s a town that has always been known for its rich culture in music…art… and writing. But for one week each year, this city really outdoes itself. This week is the week of the Mission Creek Music Festival.

The festival is a week-long event featuring various literary readings, art events and live music.

The Midwest music goldmine has booked over eighty national and local acts including the New Bodies, Booker T of the MG’s and David Bazan to play in the various downtown venues this year.

General Manager Nathan GOOLED says Iowa City College radio station, KRUI, has a lot of stock in the festival.

IT CREATES A LOT OF CONTENT THAT WE CAN UTILIZE TO PROVIDE GOOD PROGRAMMING FOR OUR LISTENERSHIP.
(STAND UP)
The mission creek music festival was established after cofounder Andre Perry moved to Iowa City from San Franciso, where he worked on the original Mission Creek Festival. After arriving in Iowa City and spending some time specifically at The Mill, he thought this town would be great to expand the festival.

(V0)
The talent the Mission Creek festival has brought to Iowa City has grabbed national attention. Pitchfork Media, known widely as one of music’s most
influential media outlets, endorsed Mission Creek, but not without some surprise saying “Who knew Iowa City had a number of venues.”

It’s pretty obvious Andre Perry and the rest of the Mission Creek staff know, Iowa City is for real.
